7th UHAS Matriculation Held in Grand Success
The program, which commenced about 8:30am, was attended by high-ranking members of the University Council as well as Deans and senior faculty members of all six schools of the premier health university in Ghana.
The matriculants in the various schools were introduced by their respective Deans, after which the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Owusu Gyapong, administered the matriculation oath and declared them full members of the university. About eight hundred students got matriculated into their chosen fields.
The matriculation first lady, Ms. Helena Pabby, delivered a speech on behalf of her colleague matriculants. In her speech, Ms. Pabby acknowledged the efforts of the university's administration and student leaders to make UHAS the best place to be. She however iterated some challenges they have so far encountered within their less-than-two-month stay in UHAS.
She lamented the huge financial burden they have to shoulder for transportation as a result of the multi-campus system. She also echoed the havoc and inconveniences caused by inadequacy of lecture halls and learning materials especially in the libraries. She ended by pleading with the leadership of the university, and Government as well, to address these challenges as soon as possible.
In his speech, Prof. Gyapong commended Ms. Helena for her boldness in voicing the problems she and her colleagues have incurred in their short stay in UHAS. He however stated that the university is not resting on its oars, but is taking due steps and protocols available in addressing these pressing challenges students go through.
He mentioned that efforts are being made to have tarred, the road leading to the permanent site, which at now is in a very deplorable state.
He also mentioned that the government of Ghana has signed a deal with the People's Republic of China to build the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) and the central administration of the university. Construction work will begin in January next year, hopefully.
Prof. Gyapong cautioned the matriculants to stick to their handbooks and desist from any form of examination malpractice, the consequence of which is rustication. He prayed them to consider themselves lucky and privileged to be chosen among thousands of applications received this year. He however counselled them to establish good relationships among themselves during their stay in UHAS.
Lecturers, parents and families, as well as other well-wishers graced the occasion to render it an absolute success.
From the office of Campus Radio Ghana, we say congratulations freshmen!!!
Welcome to the UHAS community.
