UHAS duo bag awards at 4th annual Mental Health conference




The Mental Health Conference is an annual gathering of high profile intellectuals, professionals, students and various public figures from different countries all over the world to deliberate on pertinent issues affecting mental health. This year's gathering, which marked the 4th edition, hosted by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST) saw marvelous presentations from experts , students and concerned citizens on various sensitive topics of interest in mental health.

Campus Radio Ghana's news correspondent, Mr. Kafui Dey was present there to cover the event.

The three-day program, which commenced on Monday, 15th October, 2018, with remarks from the CEO of Mental Health Authority of Ghana, Dr. Akwasi Osei, and an address by the Australian High Commissioner, H.E Andrew Barnes, came to a successful end on Wednesday, 17th October, 2018. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Thaddeus P. Ulzen on the topic: ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING: IMPLICATIONS FOR PREVENTION IN PSYCHIATRY WITHIN THE GHANAIAN HEALTHCARE CONTEXT.

Other sensitive presentations included: PREVALENCE OF DEPRESSION AND ITS ASSOCIATED FACTORS AMONG ADOLESCENT SCHOOL GIRLS by Michael Lebene, Nuwordza Kugbey and Bright Akpalu. PREVALENCE OF SUBSTANCE USE AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS AMONG SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS IN KETA MUNICIPALITY by Kizito Aidam and A REASON TO SMILE (ARTS) PROJECT: REACH OUT TO CURED LEPERS IN HO by Divine Kporha, Prince Ababio Osei, Elorm Ntem, Patricia Sosu and Richard Quainoo.

The program ended with the presentation of awards to deserving personalities. The award session was led by the President of Mental Health and Well-being Foundation, Dr. Francis Acquah.

Two distinguished UHAS alumni scooped mouthwatering awards. Mr. Kizito Aidam, a graduate in Public Health from UHAS School of Public Health(SPH), Hohoe, won the award for the Overall Best Presentation, while Divine Kporha, former UHAS SRC President, together with the Mental Health and Well-being Foundation, UHAS Chapter and its Executives, bagged home the Kofi Annan Youth Inspirational Award for their dedication to mental health in Ghana.

For  lifting high the flag of UHAS on the globe again, Campus Radio wishes to extend heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Kizito Aidam and Mr. Divine Kporha with his entire crew.
