"Tibonkoso;" UHAS SRC lacking awareness of its duties

The current state of the SRC has poised me to express my mind on some of the issues bedeviling students of UHAS. It is always said that a rat does not run in  broad daylight for nothing;  there has to be a predator, rendering its resting place too hot for rest. By this, I’m not in any way saying my place of rest is hot or that I’m being chased by a predator. But I’m only being haunted day in day out by the present state of our school, UHAS.

The current state of students is wantoned, and the SRC which is supposed to be the sentry of students have now turned to be a poltergeist in the eyes of students. Savage!  The demagogic actions by some of the executives in the SRC is enough to cause stress, let alone the academics itself. The goal in the end is not to win elections, but to change society positively (Paul Krugman).

Having been voted into office as SRC, you are obliged to provide leadership not at the expense of morality or friendship, but to fight all snags standing in the way of the general welfare of students, for it is by this, and what is expected of you that the community endures with hope. This attitude has made you congruous in negotiating every term with management.

Leadership is not a position or title, it is action and example (Cory Booker). That is to say, leadership is not all about performing ceremonial functions but the ability to influence those around you positively by successfully implementing the policies you brought into office because, it was based on those policies that each student voted.

The SRC's abeyant attitude of not putting things in place has made it inapposite in everything, in reality. What they are failing to recognize is the importance of the milieus around them. If the environment in which the SRC is operating is not favorable, every effort put will be vague. Environment here is referring to the students and the legal team.

If students are denied quality information about  SRC dealings, it makes them irrelevant (which is the current state).  Irrelevant, because students will not know the progress or regress made on each petition SRC present hence making it difficult to assess their competence. Again, When students are denied information regarding SRC dealings with management, it makes them prone to defeat and this kind of atmosphere makes it more fertile for corruption to grow with impunity.

Ruminating about sensitive issues that need to be addressed with management, what the SRC have to know is that they cannot always face management with issues as a unit with the support of only the executives and expect to win. Never! Most of the issues are beyond their control of which a team or personalities with higher savvy will be required to combat such issues. Here's an issue to ponder on. Do the SRC have a legal adviser? I don’t know any neither have I heard of any. However if there is, students would like to know. Find a way to do that.

The exclusion of the various milieus around SRC in planning haven’t caused anything but a weakness,  as it seems to me that the SRC is being bullied in decision making and it makes them to easily concur with management’s  decision even if the conditions are not favorable for the student populace. However, the SRC which ideally should be the voice of students have now turned to be the official mouthpiece of management serving as a channel where students can get to know managements view on issues without any advisement from the SRC.  Forlorn!

The effect of the SRC being horrendous goes farther than I thought. If the SRC can admit that some actions of the immediate past administration have caused problems in their administration concerning the Vodafone Package which has spiked up the school fees, then I guess the SRC should stand upright as some of their actions today are only going to cause problems for next administrations to come. It is clear that the SRC is gradually losing its credibility, their actions lack maturity and when undermined the least, it ends up setting in motion for management to bully us in every move we make especially in decision making.

The actions of the SRC have created an atmosphere where management can impose on us the decision they have taken without any consideration. It is obvious that if the SRC doesn’t work hard and build some sort of dignity, it will eventually affect the next administration as they would need to gain reputation and redeem their image in case the SRC couldn’t solve the mess they have caused before leaving office.

Upon thorough assessment, the SRC have made no major impact so far since their induction. The only impact they have made is successfully disseminating decisions taken by management. How funny! It is unimaginable how the SRC’s function changes in the course of seeking what is necessary. What are you guys doing at all? Students shouldn’t be denied what they are due because of your parochial means to enter office. Barbaric!

What the SRC must  know is that, the ability or inability to stand up to management in addressing issues and implementing  policies against the favor of students is the only judge we the students can use to rate their efficiency. Dear SRC, the savagery, the forlornly, immaturity and the funny actions of yours deserve the name ‘’tibonkoso’, which in Akan, means someone who lacks knowledge about what he or she is doing.

I think I’ve said a lot and I deserve no credit for this but what needs to be done must be done and done well. The SRC must tighten its belt when discussing problems facing students with management. There is no new or old history, history tells us about the best and the worse. It will be joyful that your names go down into the  history books of our great school as past leaders, however, it will be disastrous if tagged as ‘’the worst’. Nothing more, nothing less.

Dear SRC, you don’t need soothsayers to tell you the problems that need to be addressed. In my case, I may not be clearer to you than to myself but do not act like the mouse who champions in the cat’s absence. I may not have come any clearer, the problems and the solutions are all deeply embedded. Just think and re-think.

"However, the SRC which ideally should be the voice of students have now turned to be the official mouthpiece of management serving as a channel where students can get to know managements view on issues without any advisement from the SRC. Forlorn!" Really like this phrase. I remembered I said this sometime ago but people thought it a matter of time and our support. Haven't really seen any impact the UHAS SRC has made to the students body...hmm
