PRESS STATEMENT BY THE COALITION OF CONCERN STUDENTS LOAN TRUST FUND (SLTF) BENEFICIARIES, GHANA
PRESS STATEMENT BY THE COALITION OF CONCERN STUDENTS LOAN TRUST FUND (SLTF) BENEFICIARIES, GHANA on the delay of the disbursement of the loan.
WE NEED OUR MONEY NOW
07/11/2018
We send our warm salutation to mother Ghana and her Citizens. Also, our greetings are with the SLTF management.
It has always been said in our linguistic palace that "a rat does not run across a road in the afternoon unless it is chased by a predator or its place of rest is hot." Though we have not been chased by any predator but indeed our place of rest is very hot because the students loan in which we solely rely on for our academic affairs has not been disbursed to us.
Our place of rest is hot to the level at which we have no option than to unfold our tongues to register our unaccommodating displeasure to the Ghanaian Public. We are only left to the glimpse of the good Lord.
We however wish to use this opportunity to express our gratitude to Ghana government and the SLTF for that matter, for the unflinching financial support given to poor and needy students every year.
The Students Loan is disbursed every semester to beneficiaries to enable them cater for their academic expenses. As at now, the money is not disbursed to us, meanwhile the semester is nearing its retirement. We don't know whether they want to disburse the money to us during vacation or what? The money is not meant for chopping "chinchanga" at home so we need it now.
The mission of the SLTF is "to provide timely financial services to eligible Ghanaian tertiary students" Where is the timely financial services when we are psychologically traumatized for not paying our fees? Where is the timely financial support when landlords and hostel owners are threatening to drag us out of our sleeping places? Alas! According to the SLTF, one should receive the loan in two weeks after application provided your information is right and the form is correctly field. What do we see? Monies should also be disbursed early to beneficiaries at the beginning of the semester to enable them pay for their bills and other expenses. When is the money coming?
Some of us have not paid our fees, some of us have not paid our rent, some are seriously struggling to carry on their project work, we can't purchase necessary materials for studies, we don't eat adequately, etc and all these boil down to the delay of the disbursement of the money. One can imagine the academic repercussions of the above issues.
We feel like giving up because we have not been told the specific date for the disbursement of the money. Also, they did not communicate to us the reason for the delay.Where should our fate lie?
We are hereby appealing to His Excellency Akufo Addo, the president of the republic of Ghana and the Ministry of Education to kindly intervene as a matter of urgency in this pertinent issue and salvage us from losing our education.
It is not our pleasure to announce to the public that we are on SLTF but the gravity of the heat on us due to the delay of the loan disbursement pushed us to cry out loudly.

We were asked to sign a consent form to facilitate timely disbursement of the loan to some of us in UHAS prior to the commencement of this academic year but till date, we are yet to see the essence of that initiative. I am highly disappointed in the Scheme and the facilitators as a whole. If not anything, the entire student populace should be enlightened on the reason for the delay of the loan this time round. In that sense, our landlords and creditors will bear with us in what to us, seem to be a never-ending 'wahala'. Jehovah Jireh, the Lord our supplier, remains with us.
ReplyDeleteThis is very serious and worrying.
