Pursue higher heights in education- Prof. Binka to fresh graduates

The founding vice chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Prof. Fred Newton Binka, has admonished fresh graduates to pursue higher heights in education. He said this on Thursday, July 19, 2018 during a courtesy call at his residence by a section of fresh graduates from the University of Health and Allied Sciences, led by Mr. Divine Kporha, the 2015/2016 SRC President of the same University.

The Professor was honoured by the graduating class for his enormous contribution to the UHAS community in his years as the Vice Chancellor and even after his tenure. He took the opportunity to advice the students to forge ahead to achieve more and never rest with their first degree.

He emphasised that they have a role in making UHAS a better place only if they dare to achieve higher levels in education in their chosen areas of work.

Professor Binka recounted how he graciously managed his given time as the VC of the institution and made significant developmental strides which has placed UHAS on the map.

Among such achievements was the major role he played in securing accommodations for the first crop of students in 2012, getting Deans for the schools which were in operation for its effective running, establishing masters program for the school of public health, starting the ground works for the establishment of school of pharmacy at Keta and many other astounding administrative initiatives.

He acknowledged the relentless efforts of the team of dedicated staff he had on board.

These successes, as he noted, were not without challenges. Professor Binka went though the tussle of securing the Nursing Conference room as a temporary lecture hall for the first batch of students.
But for his persistent effort, the auditorium on the Trafalgar campus, which became the main lecture hall for the growing population of the students, wouldn't have seen the light of the day.

He is however hopeful that with the churning of students as graduates, the future of UHAS can only be great. He was happy about the new projects coming up, as the construction of the permanent structures for the school of Nursing and Midwifery in 2019, and the institution of Masters program at the School of Public Health, Hohoe.

Prof. Binka was excited about how far works have gone in establishing PhD programs at the Hohoe School of Public Health.

He expressed his sincerest gratitude to the students for their visit and reminded them never to relent on climbing higher. "Don't stop here, some of you must move quickly to the next stage. Do your Masters and PhDs. You are the ones who are going to anchor and pull this area up. Nobody from outside your group will do that. You have to get into the next stage. Please don’t stop here. Work hard,” he concluded.
