Leonard Sosu elected as PHSA President
The Public Health Students Association (PHSA) of the School of Public Health (SPH) of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) yesterday 11th April, 2018 went to the polls to elect new executives to replace the already exiting ones.
The Electoral Commission of PHSA came under serious threat of court action when they adopted the E-voting system and did very little sensitization hence denying most students the opportunity to vote.
The next logical step the commission took was to reverse to the initially proposed traditional method of voting through the ballot box.
Out of the four portfolios, only two were picked and the aspirants contested unopposed.
The polls opened at exactly 8am and closed at 5pm after which the election results were declared. The atmosphere was a very peaceful one and the process was smooth.
EC Chair of PHSA, Ms. Humu Hairul Hussein declared that out of the six hundred expected voters, only one hundred and seventy-four voters turned out.
The President-elect, Mr. Leonard Sosu extrapolated 164 Yes Votes, 10 No Votes and zero rejected ballots. The Financial Secretary elect, Mr. Innocent Anani pulled 163 Yes Votes, 8 No Votes and 3 rejected ballots.
Mr. Leonard Sosu expressed his gratitude to all the electorates who came all out to cast their votes in his favour and reassured them of his vision to revive and revamp the association.
