Philip Hanson honoured for designing emblem for School of Medicine
This momentous acknowledgement was conferred on him during a faculty meeting held on the 2nd August, 2018 at the School of Medical Sciences conference room. He got the eyes of the entire faculty after he presented a patent work of an emblem he designed for his own school, the School of Medicine of UHAS.
It became necessary in the year 2017 for the School of Medicine, UHAS to have an emblem of its own to perform certain official duties including initiation of their first batch of medical students into their clinical years.
It was this quest which challenged the selfless young man who resolved to save the situation, hence, making him the originator of UHAS, SoM emblem. The crest has therefore become the official symbol of UHAS School of Medicine.
However, the Dean of School of Medicine, Prof Harry Tagbor, when asked about the symbols on the crest and their meaning, stated that it would be disclosed during an official occasion next semester.
It could be recalled that Mr. Hanson who was a Presidential aspirant in the 2017/2018 SRC elections lost to his competitor Mr. Asare Derrick but has taken up social responsibilities to benefit the student populace.
In an interview with Maxwell Ntiamoah of Campus Radio Ghana, Mr. Hanson indicated that he is always motivated by an inner feeling to make a positive impact wherever he finds himself without concentrating on its magnitude. "So many people think it's all about what you get from the university but NO...it's also about what the university remembers you for. Let's all try to make an impact to take UHAS to greater heights", he added.
Profiling Philip Hanson's contributions to the School of Medicine and UHAS at large, it is amazing to know of this prospective third year medical student with such an undisputable and undying dedication to the medical students association and has led to continuous progress in the association.
He held a position as the Exchange Officer in the 2017/ 2018 academic year where he contributed massively in the integration of the UHAS medical students to their mother bodies which are the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association, and the International Federation of Medical Students Association.
This has made it possible for all medical students in UHAS to travel outside Ghana for exchange and elective programmes. He is currently the local officer of Standing Committee for Human Rights and Peace - International Federation of Medical Students Association (SCORP-IFMSA)
