I bowed out of the Federal Presidential race due to private reasons - Samuel Anesala
The history of elections in the University of Health and Allied Sciences is fairly an interesting one with lots of surprises almost every year. In the general election for the 2016/2017 academic year, students were curious about the real reasons why certain aspirations for some crucial portfolios rescinded their decision later on.
The first to decline was Asante Kofi Baffour popularly known as "Cortical". He declared his intention to run for the Local NUGS Presidential slot on Hohoe Campus but eventually withdrew with the excuse that Sodoke Ernest Ewoenam was his comrade thus he had to pave way for him to contest. Then came Mr. Atuahene Ahmed who is currently a Justice at the UHAS SRC Court. Mr. Ahmed made his intention long before nominations were opened but sadly he had issues with his portal and had to worm his way out of the contest.
The 2017/2018 elections is not new to this kind of surprises as one of the Federal Presidential aspirants previously backed out from the race with reasons best known to him.
Campus Radio Ghana in an exclusive interview with Mr. Samuel Anesala, gathered that the more reason why he bowed out of the contest was due to some domestic problems he encountered. According to him, his mother had suddenly taken ill and was diagnosed of Tetanus compelling him to leave school to cater for her. This new development pushed him to dissolve the team he had formed for his campaign.
Mr. Anesala revealed that the stipulated time for closing nominations was almost due making it impossible for him to pick forms and he was partly depressed when the Electoral Commission extended the time but was financially handicapped.
However, he wished the current aspirants Hon. Philip Hanson and Hon. Asare Derrick well in the upcoming elections. He opined that the student leaders of today use pretence and lies to get to the top and the consequences is usually devastating.
He told Campus Radio Ghana that the current Afrane-led administration lacks good priority setting and described it as a translucent one. Mr. Anesala commended the Federal Treasurer, Hon. Isaac Yeboah for his immense contributions to the progress of the SRC and added that there's more room for improvement. He admonished student leaders to be accountable to the students who put them in office.
In his final words he said, "we should be dynamic in selecting leaders. If we keep repeating the same kind of criteria for selecting leaders, we will keep getting the same kind of leaders we don't want. If we act dynamically, leaders will not be able to deceive us".
