Afrane Pious deserves the praise not you - Appiah fires back at Kporha Divine

Nursing and midwifery students across the nation successfully completed their licensure examinations yesterday, 5th of September, 2018 and this year, luck smiled at graduate nurses and midwives of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) who for the first time took the exams within the same year after completion of their course.

Previous graduates wrote their Licensure examinations the following year after completion, and of all invested efforts to avert that arrangement, none witnessed the rising sun of fruition, with student leaders in doing their all in talking management into accepting their proposal to allow them write the exams in August after completion other than February the following year.

Campus Radio Ghana received a copy of a writeup titled "CHALLENGING THE STATUS QUO: THE STORY OF 2018 GRADUATE NURSES AND MIDWIVES OF UHAS" compiled by Mr. Divine Kporha, Former SRC President of the same institution. The writeup has received a sharp rebuttal from another recent graduate, Mr. Appiah Kubi Prosper popularly known as "Strait" who also belonged to the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM).

In the article, Mr. Kporha narrated the genesis of the struggle to cause management to hear their plea and readjust the examination period. He hinted that the Dean of SONAM, Prof. Portia Prudence Mwini Nyaledzigbor was indispensable in the fight for change.

He added that the obstacles before them were great but due to their determination, perseverance and unified student front they didn't back down but forged forward to change the status quo.

According to the writeup, the Licensure Examination Committee (LEC) was constituted which he presided as Chairman until he handed over the baton to the immediate past President of the Local NUGS on Ho campus, Mr. Nlason Isaac to continue the protest.

Mr. Appiah has lambasted his colleague Kporha Divine, calling him a praise-seeking individual who does things for self glorification. He told Campus Radio that Mr. Kporha spent two academic years as SRC President but never dedicated himself to fighting for change.

He was unhappy with the fact that Mr. Afrane Pious who is the immediate past SRC President was not acknowledged in his writeup since he believed Mr. Afrane championed the course with Mr. Tsetse Brown until it became apparent that they were going to take the exams in August when Mr. Kporha rushed to form the Licensure Examination Committee.

The pissed off graduate nurse revealed that Mr. Kporha later resigned from the committee and he is struggling to come into terms with why he is going about boasting that he made the change possible.

Mr. Appiah further stated that Mr. Afrane Pious had a seat at council meetings when he was SRC President and he presented the issue to them but the committee for Licensure Examination Committee didn't achieve its goals.
