Debate Society of UHAS put "Creation of new regions" in debate perspective

The much awaited debate championship organised by the Public Health Students Association (PHSA) of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in collaboration with the Debate Society was finally staged at the Binka Hall on Hohoe Campus. The motion before the house was "This house supports the creation of new regions, eg. The Oti Region in the Volta Region".

The Inter-level debate competition hinged on the British Parliamentary style which has been recently adopted by the Debate Society.

In the Opening Government was Level 100 represented by Miss Bour Helen and Miss Gakparah Edinam Laureen. Level 200 who were Opening Opposition was represented by the duos of Miss Ethel-A Akolaa and Mr. Leonard Sosu.

In Closing government was Level 400 represented by Avoka Ayere Vasco and Naabu Emmanuel. In the Closing Opposition was Level 300 represented by Samuel Atsitsere and Stevenson Ohene Gyan.

The adjudication panel was led by Mr. Nyande Isaac (Chief Adjudicator) who is the Vice President of the Debate Society in UHAS.

After a marathon of heated arguments with sharp rebuttals from all sides, the debate giants of Level 300 beat their counterparts in other levels to place first in the competition.

The audience chanted and shouted as their representatives in the Debate made wonderful submissions.

The names on everyone's lips after the Debate was Mr. Samuel Atsitsere and Mr. Stevenson Ohene-Djan who gave the adjudicators a reason to score them the highest point in the competition.
Ranking for the best speakers was as follows

1st: Samuel Atsitsere with speaker score of 78 points

2nd: Stevenson Ohene Gyan with a speaker score of 76 points

3rd: Avoka Ayere Vasco with a speaker score of 74.5 points

In his closing remarks, Mr. Nyande Isaac highlighted a few grey areas the debaters didn't touch on and explicitly educated them on how to tackle the topic holistically. He encouraged the audience to join the Debate Society to equip them to debate constructively.
