Leonard Sosu, others inducted as PHSA executives
Mr. Leonard Sosu, the man whose name was glued on every lip at the school of Public Health on April 11 last month has been inducted as President of PHSA, an association of students studying Public Health at the University of Health and Allied Sciences.
The Public Health Students Association, PHSA was formed in 2013 and patronage from students in the association has been on decline since. During the PHSA elections, only 2 of 4 portfolios attracted nominations and as if that was not enough, only 29% of the total student population turned out to cast their votes in their most recent elections. Mr. Leonard Sosu (president) and Mr. Innocent Anani (Financial Secretary) were the only executives elected during the elections conducted by PHSA EC commission under the watch of Ms. Humu Hairul Husein, the EC Chairperson.
The induction ceremony, chaired by Mr. Edem similarly to previous occurrences received quite an underwhelming attention by the majority of students in the name group and personal assignments adding up to the pressure and stress of revision in preparation to the soon-to-begin end of semester examinations.
Reflecting on his time in office, the immediate past president of PHSA, Mr. Atsu Saviour in his speech at the induction cited his achievements which included renovation of tiles, screening and cleaning exercises, organised seminars among others. He sounded a bit confounded yet impressed about his tenure of service saying that he believes his administation has done their utmost best.
He also mentioned that poor finances due to poor attitude of students toward dues payments coupled with the challenge to work without a patron have both been his wet blanket.
He advised the incoming administration to be humble as they discharge their duties and also expressed faith in them to do better.
Man of the day Mr. Leonard Sosu when giving his acceptance speech promised the electorates that together with his colleague executives they will not disappoint the electorates and PHSA. He begged that members should cooperate with the executives in realising that PHSA they all desire to see. He further expressed his hope that PHSA emulates the Medical Students Association (MSA) and Nursing And Midwifery Students Association (NAMSA) under his leadership.
Gabriel Ibrahim (Vice President), Armah Sampson (General Secretary), Selina Agandaa Awinbisa (Women's Commissioner), Ali Mohammed Quraish (PRO), Annor Simon (Head of Entertainment) and Prince Bissah (Head of sports) were also inducted following their appointments to assume their respective positions in office.
