Regina Tetteh voted first female NAMSA President in UHAS
It was a glittering atmosphere on Friday 23rd February, 2018 at the Trafalgar auditorium as students of the School of Nursing and Midwifery of the University of Health and Allied Sciences gathered in the mood of expectancy of results of the new electronic voting system that the EC recently adopted. There were lots of questions the public had about the newly adopted system, an alien system among the University of Health and Allied Sciences folk.
After the whole voting process that lasted between the hours of 8 am and 5:50 pm had ended, the majority voted Ms. Regina Tetteh as president ahead of Ag. President Mr. Tuglo-Mawuli Michael Kofi. Ms. Tetteh has become the 4th elected and first female NAMSA president following a soon to be held coronation.
As the election was being held, Campus Radio Ghana's Mr. Dartey Mawunyo engaged some leaders he came across for their thoughts as far as the newly adopted electronic voting system was concerned. They had these to say :
On whether he had concerns regarding the integrity of the system, the SRC Chief Editor Mr. Danso Solomon was quoted as saying: "Yes. That fear is there. But I think my trust in the EC is more than the fear. I'm sure before the aspirants agreed to go by the system they had tried and tested the system and known the security measures put in place to protect the system".
Former NAMSA Vice President, Mr. Asiamah Curtis added that "The process is very smooth. I have voted and I'm very grateful with how the system is running. And frankly speaking, the system is fast and I recommend it in the upcoming SRC election because it's just the best."
EC boss Mr. Adusei Emmanuel expressed his satisfaction that UHAS has embraced a change in electioneering procedures for the first time. He also said that he can only hope that the process would get better although a few number of students needed some guidance with how to go about the whole process. Mr. Adusei also recounted on how the EC managed a little interruption from the Dean of students who thought that the election had diverted the attention of students from the France Campus Information session that was being held at the same venue and time.
One of the brains behind the development of the software, Mustapha disclosed that with the upcoming SRC and NUGS elections, there would be one polling station each at Hohoe, Dave, Sokode, Trafalgar, SRC and Defiat hostels, notwithstanding the fact that the system would be made accessible to all to vote anywhere at anytime in their own convenience. He was also strongly convinced that the security is tight and shielded against potential threats.
According to Mustapha, the team of developers has also proposed the possibility of displaying results as they happen at selected vantage points for public scrutiny.
