Rotary Family Health Days ends successfully
This year’s Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD) took place at Gbi-wegbe, a suburb of Hohoe Municipality in the Volta Region of Ghana, the exact venue for their 2016 program.
It started on Thursday, February 22nd, 2018 to Saturday, February 24, 2018 under the theme Healthy Families, Healthy Communities. This was spearheaded by the Rotary club of Hohoe with support from the Rotaract club of the University of Health and Allied Sciences-Hohoe and some Ghana Health Service personnel working in the municipality.
Undeniably, the program received an enormous patronage from the community and beyond exceeding this year’s set target of 1000 participants. Over 1150 participants benefited from the program and over 10,000 male contraceptives were distributed.
Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD) is a three day health delivery program aimed at providing free health care services to those living in especially relatively deprived communities. This program gives the prospect for Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and Guests to interact and offer altruistic services to families and communities. The program is Rotary –led, organized by the Rotary International and proudly sponsored by the Rotary Foundation.
The services rendered include: lifelong immunizations against childhood diseases such as polio and measles, vaccinations and comprehensive life-saving screening services such as HIV, TB, Diabetes, Hypertension and many others such as deworming.
It is run in partnership with USAID and countries’ health departments (Ghana Health Service in the case of Ghana) as well as other international organisations. This program started in 2011 and was able to serve at least 38,000 people in Kenya and Uganda. As at 2016, about 1.2 million people had benefited from the program.
Ayekooo!! Rotary club of Hohoe and Rotaract club of University of Health and Allied Sciences-Hohoe, the missions of Rotary International are being lived.
