Women's Health and Wellbeing Foundation screens women in Hohoe

As part of the activities to mark the International Breast Cancer Screening and Awareness Day, the foundation dedicated to women's health and wellbeing embarked on a breast screening exercise yesterday 13th October, 2018 at the forecourt of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Basic School in Hohoe.

The foundation, whose co-founders are Ms. Rosemary Mawuena Amegbedzi and Joseph Benne together with its committed members have organized health programs in pursuit of empowering women to increase control over their health.

The team of health students educated the over two hundred women present on breast cancer and what they can do to prevent it as well as breast self-examination techniques. Breast cancer emanates from the proliferation of abnormal cells and has no known cure which is why the organization has committed itself to create awareness.

In all, about one hundred and seventy (170) women were screened through breast examination. Early detection is key in the prevention of breast cancer and therefore the participants where counseled on the need to report to the nearest health facility in the case where they see signs such as swelling, painful lump, rashes amongst other unusual signs.

In an exclusive interview with Ms. Rosemary Mawuena, a cofounder  of the foundation, she stressed that Breast Cancer is a silent killer disease adding that more women die each and every day hence making it alarming. As a health advocate, she finds it necessary to carry out this activity on the 13th of October every year which is recognized globally as "No Bra Day".

Some participants expressed their joy for benefitting from the exercise the foundation has carried out.  Others had some fears prior to the screening whiles others said they had always wanted to do self examination but they couldn't until they partook in the activities.

Ms. Mawuena thanked the staff of the Hohoe Municipal Hospital for availing themselves to assist them in the screening. The participants and the members of the foundation were not forgotten as their efforts made the event successful.
