UG SRC PRO Convicted of Contempt of Court, Slapped With 700 Cedis Fine by the Judicial Board
The Publicity and Information Committee Head [PRO] of the Students’ Representative Council of the University of Ghana, Eleazar Fordjour Quayson has been convicted of Contempt of Court after he made certain comments in relation to a Judicial Board’s ruling.
In a series of posts after the Judicial Board had ordered that the Electoral Commission conducted a rerun of 2018 SRC Elections at the Volta Hall Polling station, following a confirmed case of overvoting, the SRC PRO popularly known as ‘Faculty’ critiqued and lashed out at the Judicial Board for their decision.
After Board sitting at the SRC Union Building, the committee found him guilty of contempt of the court and convicted him of same to serve as deterrent to other members of the student populace who are fond of making slanderous comments which dent the integrity of the Board.
The Judicial Board ordered that Eleazar Fordjour Quayson renders an official apology for his actions via Radio Univers and all other social media platforms as applicable, and copy same to the Dean of Student Affairs, the Speaker of the General Assembly and the Chief Justice of the SRC.
In addition, he is also to pay a fine to the tune of GHC700.00. And these are to be carried through by 6:00pm on Saturday [May 5, 2018].
Refusal to carry out these orders shall constitute grounds for his removal as Public Relations Officer of the University of Ghana SRC.
