UHAS EMBARKS ON INTERDEPARTMENTAL HEALTH OUTREACH
On the morn of March 9, 2018, an array of students from the schools of Nursing and Midwifery, Allied Health Sciences and Medicine of the University of Health and Allied Sciences set out on a health outreach program to Kpando senior high school in the volta region. The students, led by Sei-Srem Philip, were accompanied by Mrs. Comfort Lotse from the lecturing staff, a representative of the Dean of students and Mr. Seyram Agbotse, a faculty member.
The program was aimed at eradicating communicable infections and rodents in various senior high school within the Volta region. About 2,050 students of the Kpando senior high school were educated on infection prevention, lassa fever and candidiasis. Both teaching and non-teaching staff of the school were screened for various conditions including malaria, hypertension, and diabetes, while the students were screened for malaria and malnutrition.
The school environment was also inspected in areas like the kitchen, school meal, dormitory, lavatory, refuse disposal, and general cleanliness with due recommendations given.
With its operations commencing as recent as 2012, the University of Health and Allied Sciences is one of the youngest institutions in Ghana. As part of its vision to be a pre-eminent health research educational institution dedicated to community service, the University has on numerous occasions conducted health programs aimed at improving the quality of health of people in communities within the Region and beyond.
